Beach House Company started marketing high quality jersey bedding in selected European countries in 2009. The design is inspired by the California coastal lifestyle, and the colors and styles reflect the feeling of simplicity and relaxation you get from the bedding.
The concept of jersey bedding gained popularity during the 90’s when Rachel Ashwell started selling it in her California-based boutique. Inspired by the feeling you get when you sleep in an oversized T-shirt, Rachel asked herself: if people find T-shirt fabric so comfortable to sleep in, why not extend it to the whole bed? When Oprah Winfrey subsequently called jersey bedding “the discovery of the year”, the demand for the product increased dramatically. On her show, Oprah let everybody know: “Since I found T-shirt sheets, sleeping has not been the same for me… nothing has made me feel better than these sheets.”
The talk show host went on to explain how she had tried exclusive products over the years, including hand-made sheets from French villages, but that no other sheets compared to jersey sheets.
